Finding the right custom optics manufacturing partner starts with a conversation about what your optical system needs to accomplish. Sharing application details helps an optical supplier evaluate your requirements, identify missing information, and recommend an appropriate manufacturing approach.
Whether you need a custom lens, an optical assembly, or OEM optics for a new product, providing the information you have can help move your project forward.

Not Sure What Your Application Requires? Westech Can Help.
You do not need a complete optical drawing or finalized lens specifications to start a conversation with Westech Optical. If you cannot provide specific information, our team will gladly help determine what you may need for your application.
With years of technical expertise in optical engineering and custom lens design, we can help define performance requirements, evaluate options, and guide you through the lens design phase. Whether you have detailed specifications, a preliminary concept, or simply an imaging challenge to solve, Westech is here to make the process easier.
The following information provides a useful starting point for a lens manufacturing quote. Share what you know, and we can help you work through the rest.
Start With Your Optical Application
An optical drawing provides important specifications, but the application explains why those specifications matter.
Describe what your product does and how the optics will be used. Is the lens part of a machine vision inspection system, a medical instrument, a robotics application, or a life science imaging device?
If available, include the operating wavelength or spectral range, available space, working distance, and environmental conditions. If the system uses an image sensor, identify the sensor manufacturer and model.
This context helps your optical manufacturing partner evaluate the complete requirement rather than an isolated component. If these details have not yet been established, Westech can help identify the requirements that matter for your application.
Provide Available Lens Drawings and Performance Requirements
For an existing design, provide the current optical drawing and revision number. Depending on the component, useful information may include:
- Lens diameter and center thickness
- Radius of curvature and focal length
- Optical glass or substrate material
- Clear aperture and dimensional tolerances
- Surface quality and surface accuracy
- Coating requirements and operating wavelengths
- Mounting dimensions and assembly constraints
For imaging lenses and custom optical assemblies, useful system requirements include field of view, magnification, distortion, and modulation transfer function, or MTF.
If some specifications are still being developed, identify those areas. Separating established requirements from preliminary targets gives the supplier a clearer starting point.
If you do not have an optical drawing, start by explaining your application and desired results. Westech can assist with translating those needs into lens design requirements.
